EMBnet Organisation |
EMBnet is an organisation, incorporated as a Stichting (foundation) under Dutch law and largely suported by EU funds, consisting of national and specialist nodes which provide bioinformatics support and services to the European molecular biology comunity.
EMBnet was found in 1988 and during its existence has evolved from an informal network of individuals in charge of maintaining biological databases into the only organisation world-wide bringing bioinformatics professionals to work together to serve the expanding fields of genetics and molecular biology. Although composed predominantly of academic nodes, EMBnet gains an important added dimension from its industrial members. The combined expertise of 37 nodes allows EMBnet to provide services to the European molecular biology community which encompasses more than can be provided by single node.
